Buy Generic Questran (Cholestyramine) without prescription in Canada

At our Canadian pharmacy, you can purchase Questran (cholestyramine) 4 g powder without a prescription, with discreet and anonymous packaging delivered within 5-14 days across Canada. Questran is a bile acid sequestrant used to lower high cholesterol, particularly elevated LDL cholesterol, in patients who have not responded adequately to diet alone. It is also prescribed for the relief of itching associated with partial biliary obstruction. The powder is mixed with water or another liquid before swallowing. Would you like to try Questran without a prescription?

Common use Questran

Cholestyramine works in the intestine rather than being absorbed into the bloodstream. It binds to bile acids in the gut, forming an insoluble complex that is excreted in the feces. This forces the liver to produce new bile acids from cholesterol, which lowers the amount of cholesterol in the blood, particularly LDL cholesterol. The drug also helps relieve pruritus in patients with partial biliary obstruction by removing bile acids from the circulation. Cholestyramine does not lower triglycerides and may actually raise them in some patients. The lipid-lowering effect appears within weeks, with maximum reduction achieved after about one month of continuous use. Because the drug stays in the gut, systemic side effects are minimal, but local gastrointestinal effects are common.

Dosage and direction

The usual starting dose of Questran is 4 g (one sachet or one level scoop) taken one to two times daily before meals. The dose may be increased gradually to 4 g two to four times daily, depending on cholesterol response and tolerability. The maximum recommended dose is 24 g per day. Mix the powder with at least 120 to 180 mL of water, juice, milk, or a soft food such as applesauce or soup. Stir well and drink immediately; do not let the mixture sit, as it thickens. Rinse the glass with additional liquid and drink that too to ensure the full dose is taken. Questran should be taken before meals to bind bile acids when they are released. Other medications should be taken at least 1 hour before or 4 to 6 hours after Questran, because the resin can interfere with their absorption. Drink plenty of fluids throughout the day to reduce the risk of constipation.

Precautions

Cholestyramine can cause or worsen constipation, especially in older adults and patients with pre-existing bowel problems. If constipation develops, stool softeners or increased fluid intake may help. The drug may impair absorption of fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K, particularly with long-term use or high doses. Your doctor may recommend supplementation. Cholestyramine may increase triglyceride levels; patients with hypertriglyceridemia should be monitored. Tell your doctor if you have a history of gallbladder disease, stomach ulcers, hemorrhoids, or thyroid disorders. The powder contains phenylalanine in the Light formulation, which matters for patients with phenylketonuria. If you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding, discuss with your doctor, because the drug can affect nutrient absorption. Long-term use may be associated with an increased risk of bleeding due to vitamin K deficiency. Report any unusual bruising or bleeding.

Contraindications

Questran is contraindicated in patients with complete biliary obstruction, because bile acids cannot reach the intestine. It should not be used in patients with known hypersensitivity to cholestyramine or any component of the formulation. The drug is contraindicated in patients with phenylketonuria if using Questran Light, due to the aspartame content. It should be avoided in patients with severe constipation or fecal impaction. Cholestyramine is not indicated for use in children under 6 years of age, as safety and efficacy have not been established. Patients with hypertriglyceridemia above 300 mg/dL should use cholestyramine with caution, as triglycerides may rise further. The medication should not be used as monotherapy in patients with primary biliary cirrhosis and high serum cholesterol, because it is generally not effective in this setting.

Side effects

The most common side effect of Questran is constipation. Other gastrointestinal complaints include bloating, flatulence, nausea, abdominal discomfort, and diarrhea. Some patients experience heartburn or a feeling of fullness. Constipation is more likely at higher doses and in older patients. Less common effects include skin rash, itching, and headache. Long-term use may lead to deficiencies of fat-soluble vitamins, causing night blindness from vitamin A deficiency or easy bruising from vitamin K deficiency. Hyperchloremic acidosis has been reported rarely, especially in children and patients with kidney disease. If you notice severe abdominal pain, vomiting, or signs of intestinal obstruction, stop the medication and contact your doctor. Most gastrointestinal side effects improve as the body adjusts to the resin.

Drug interaction

Questran is one of the most interactive drugs available because it physically binds to many substances in the gut. It reduces the absorption of warfarin, digoxin, thyroid hormones, thiazide diuretics, beta-blockers, and many antibiotics. Oral contraceptives may be less effective. It impairs absorption of fat-soluble vitamins and folic acid. Bile acid sequestrants can reduce the absorption of other cholesterol-lowering agents such as statins and ezetimibe. To minimize interactions, administer other medications at least 1 hour before or 4 to 6 hours after Questran. Monitor INR closely if you take warfarin. Tell your doctor and pharmacist about all medications you take, including over-the-counter products and supplements, because the timing of each dose matters.

Missed dose

If you miss a dose of Questran, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is close to your next scheduled dose. In that case, skip the missed dose and continue with your normal schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up. If you miss several doses, resume the regular schedule without taking extra powder. Consistency matters more than making up for skipped doses.

Overdose

Overdose with Questran is unlikely to cause serious systemic toxicity because the drug is not absorbed. The main concern is gastrointestinal obstruction or severe constipation, especially if the powder is taken without enough liquid. Symptoms may include severe abdominal pain, vomiting, and inability to pass stool. Treatment is supportive and includes hydration and laxatives if needed. If a large amount was ingested, contact a poison control centre or seek medical attention. Do not induce vomiting unless instructed by a healthcare professional.

Storage

Store Questran powder at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius (59 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit). Keep the sachets in the original carton to protect from moisture and light. Do not freeze. Do not store in the bathroom or near a sink. Keep out of sight and reach of children and pets. Once mixed with liquid, the suspension should be taken immediately and not stored for later use. Discard any unused powder after the expiry date on the packaging.
